Strengthening your Intellectual Property Portfolio through Patent Valuation Analysis
The R&D arm of an American manufacturer of medical equipment wanted to strengthen its intellectual property portfolio of microprocessors. In order to identify the patents that bestow maximum commercial advantage, it commissioned Netscribes to conduct a patent valuation analysis.
Business challenge
In order to strengthen its intellectual property portfolio of multi-core processors, our client wanted to identify the patents with maximum commercial potential. This required an independent patent valuation based on their technology strengths and market application.
Solution
Netscribes conducted a comprehensive patent valuation analysis to determine the strength of each patent. This encompassed the following:
Patent enforceability: We analyzed the strength of each patent based on its observability, geographic spread, and ease of investigation.
Market impact: We then assessed their market potential based on their current and future applications.
Claim construction: To identify infringing patents, we analyzed their claims by investigating the prior-art, scope of claims, and availability of alternatives.
Citation analysis: We examined the forward and backward citations, their rate, and also determined the share of client’s own patents and others among the cited.
Results delivered
Based on the ranking metrics, we provided a list of patents ranked in terms of their commercial viability. The results were presented with a final score against each of the patents based on their potential of generating revenue through licensing.
Benefit
Netscribes’ patent valuation analysis helped the client to shortlist and prioritize the most important patents for commercialization.
